The 3rd annual UniverCell Vijay Awards 2008 at Jawarharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium was a star studded event. Here are the winners of the Vijay awards 2009.
The favorite hero award was won by Kamal Haasan for Dasavatharam, while Nayanthara favorite heroine for her role in Yaaradi Nee Mohini. Gautham Menon’s Vaaranam Aayiram seems have had the mass appeal, as it bagged the three remaining favorite categories – best film, best director (Gautham Menon) and best song (Anjala).
The jury members chose Suriya as the best actor for his role in Vaaranam Aayiram while Simran bagged the best supporting actress for the same film and Harris Jeyaraj for his brilliant music score. Nenjukul Peithidum song in Vaaranam Aayiram won the best playback singer award for Hariharan and best lyricist award for Thamarai. Apart from bagging the best favorite actor award, Kamal Haasan was adjudged the best villain, best comedian and best story screenplay writer for Dasavatharam.
LG’s Best Film Award went to Subramaniapuram. Subramaniapuram also won Sivaji Ganesan Institute Best Director Award (Sasi Kumar), SR Kathir (best cinematographer), Raja Mohammad (Best Editor), and Rajasekar for stunts
